The Little Nakken Family Newsletter Spring 2008

Jason

Jason has finally graduated from BYU in neuroscience! I am so proud of him and all that he has accomplished over the last seven years!! ;) He has made a lot of sacrifice to reach this goal. Way to go babe! You are one smart cookie. He looked so good in his cap and gown. I was grinning from head to toe. Jason had a huge surprise waiting for him after he received his diploma. I told him that after they called his name he needed to jet out of there because we had somewhere to be by 10am. Jason had been planning a trip to Moab with his brothers and dad. He thought that’s where we were going; little did he know that we were going to be flying for 6 hours to reach our surprise destination in Hawaii! He had no idea! He was so surprise when I told him. He was handed a little note that said, “Congrats you have earned yourself a free trip to the temple, snorkeling, hiking with spectacular views you have never seen, beach, sand, water, and sun.” (He has seen the beach before, but not like this.) Then his mom gave him a little bag with a hula girl, sunscreen, and two tickets to Hawaii. Surprise!

Waikiki BeachWell, after planning and finding spare minutes to pack both myself and Jason, I was in desperate need of a vacation. Going to Hawaii has been on my to do list for a long time. It was more than amazing. We loved it and had a fabulous time. We stayed in a family friend’s condo right on the beach. The first night we went straight out to the beach and Jason saw an octopus and a sea turtle. We visited the Hawaii temple, Pearl Harbor, and went to Hanauma Bay where the water is crystal clear and the fish are everywhere. They are big, and they swim right next to you. We hiked also Diamond Head Trail. It has an unbelievable 360-degree view. We went to Waikiki Beach which so beautiful, clean, and crowded. They have every store you could imagine: Tiffany's, Gucci, Juicy Couture, Louis Vuitton, oh someday! It was like heaven on Earth! I am happy to be home and with my beautiful baby Bella. I threw in a couple pictures of me and Jason rock climbing at the Quarry. It was a lot of fun and a good workout. I had the opportunity to go to Women’s Conference again this year. This is where I received the inspiration to start a family newsletter. It was wonderful to feel the spirit strongly and to better myself, my marriage, and my relationship with my daughter. President Monson was the concluding speaker and he brought tears to my eyes when he turned around and waved to our section and then he gave us a thumbs up. It is funny how something so simple can touch you so deeply. It is a moment that I will never forget. The spirit bore witness to me that he is a prophet of God.

Bella

Bella had the time of her life while mommy and daddy where in Hawaii she stayed with Grandma and Grandpa Nakken. She got everything she wanted and then some. Bella is speaking so well and she’s really learning to communicate with words. She has several new words but there are a couple that I love to hear her pronounce because she says them so clearly: “Basketball”, (Grandpa Nakken could not be prouder), “Butterfly”, and “Quesadilla”. She loves to be outside no matter what the temperature may be. She loves to hear that she runs FAST and she is an excellent jumper. She loves to read books and we are both very sad that there will be no story time at the library for the month of May. We love to ride the bike with the trailer attached and go to the park! Bella loves to dress up. She is the love of our life and makes us laugh (and cry happy and sad tears). There are times that I will look at her, really look at her, and I’m reminded of how precious she is and that I’m so lucky to have her in my life. We are so proud of all that she accomplishes every day.

Bella is so big (I mean that it in a nice way, not in the "you should never call girls big" way)! Kids grow up so fast...

Congrats on all the accomplishments and adventures.
